About Ardberg House
Nestled in Port Ellen on the rugged Scottish island of Islay, Ardberg House is a boutique hotel offering twelve individually themed bedrooms, each inspired by the myths and legends of Ardbeg whisky and the island itself. Guests are welcomed with drams on arrival, enjoy breakfast daily, and have access to the Signature Restaurant and Islay Bar. Every room is a story-driven space, filled with playful details and hidden surprises, creating a truly immersive experience.
The Brief
Working alongside Russell Sage Studio and CP Hart, Fitzroy of London was invited to contribute to the transformation of Ardberg House into a luxurious yet inclusive destination. The design brief called for luxury accessible bathrooms that would complement the hotel’s bold, characterful interiors while ensuring full compliance with accessibility standards. The challenge was to deliver inclusive bathroom design that felt seamless, elegant, and entirely bespoke.
Our Approach
Fitzroy of London brought its accessible bathroom expertise to the project, collaborating closely with the design team to ensure every detail aligned with the hotel’s vision. We specified products from our Signature Range, selecting the Portland Collection in a Natural Antique Brass finish to harmonise with the rich, tactile materials used throughout the hotel. The Portland Collection’s removable features offered flexibility without compromising on style, allowing for discreet accessibility that enhances rather than detracts from the overall aesthetic.
Our team provided technical consultation to ensure all installations met regulatory standards while maintaining the integrity of the design. We worked hand-in-hand with contractors and designers to ensure every product was placed with precision and purpose.

The Result
The bathrooms at Ardberg House are a testament to what’s possible when accessible bathroom design is approached with creativity and care. Each space is both functional and beautiful, offering guests a luxurious experience that doesn’t exclude anyone. The accessible bathroom products blend effortlessly into the hotel’s storytelling interiors, supporting the narrative without drawing attention away from it.
Value to the Customer
For Russell Sage Studio and the team at Ardberg House, Fitzroy of London delivered more than just products - we provided peace of mind. Our involvement ensured that the hotel could offer inclusive bathrooms that meet the highest standards of design and compliance. The Portland Collection’s removable features allow for future adaptability, supporting long-term operational flexibility. Most importantly, the hotel can now welcome all guests with confidence, knowing that every detail has been considered.
