About St Christopher's Hospice
The Brief
St Christopher’s were looking to refresh their wards and staff spaces to create a contemporary, modern and peaceful environment. The challenge lay in achieving a softer, more welcoming aesthetic without compromising safety, accessibility or infection control.
As with all healthcare projects, delivery needed to take place within a live environment, requiring careful coordination, sensitivity and a clear understanding of how spaces are used by patients, visitors and clinical teams alike.
Innova Care Concepts came to Fitzroy of London for our Marylebone accessible products to complement the project.
Our Approach
As accessible bathroom experts, Fitzroy of London brought both technical knowledge and design insight to the project. Our role focused on guiding the specification of inclusive bathroom design that would support a calm visual language while ensuring full compliance with healthcare and accessibility regulations.
We advised on:
- Selecting finishes that feel contemporary and residential, yet remain robust and appropriate for clinical environments
- Balancing visual clarity with contrast requirements to support users with visual impairments
- Designing layouts that enhance dignity, usability and independence for a wide range of mobility needs
The Style range from our Marylebone collection, specified in a Dark Grey finish, was chosen for its understated elegance and versatility. The finish provides a modern, calming tone while offering the tonal contrast required for accessible bathroom design in healthcare settings.
The Result
The completed spaces achieve a considered balance of form and function. Bathrooms and washrooms feel refined and contemporary, contributing to a peaceful atmosphere that supports patient well-being and staff comfort.
The design-led approach demonstrates how design-led accessible bathrooms can exist successfully within clinical environments - enhancing emotional experience without compromising safety, durability or compliance.
By working closely with the wider project team, the outcome reflects a shared commitment to thoughtful design that respects the sensitive nature of hospice care.
Value to the Customer
For St Christopher’s Hospice, the refreshed wards and staff spaces deliver far more than a visual update. The project shows how informed, carefully guided design decisions can positively influence how people interact with their surroundings during some of life’s most challenging moments.
For designers, architects and contractors, the project stands as a strong example of how accessible bathroom products can be integrated seamlessly into healthcare environments - supporting inclusive use, meeting regulations and elevating overall design quality.
