Trend: Society – Design for Needs
In 2026, WGSN highlights that “consumers will be expecting brands to take a more layered approach to their needs, creating products and services that support a diverse range of uses and people, rather than singular segments.”
With a society which is living for longer, alongside the cost-of-living crisis, this will result in an increased range of multi-generational living situations – and therefore, the increased demand for demographic and ability-appropriate products and spaces.
For brands, “product development will focus on the needs of individuals and their communities, with targeted solutions that make them feel seen and understood,” says WGSN. Designers and specifiers will therefore need to create more inclusive spaces that cater to a broader range of needs – which is where luxury accessible bathroom products take centre-stage.
Our Head of Product, Mark Shepherd, says it’s vital to “make accessibility part of the design, in both accessible and non-accessible washrooms, with seamless functionality so it is flexible to evolve with a user’s needs.” This includes introducing products such as adjustable-height shower heads, removable grab rails and control interfaces that can be upgraded without replacing the plumbing. Pair these with quality, durable and elegant finishes that are designed to withstand a more intensively utilised environment – and the result is an elegant and dignified space which continues to delivery luxury, comfort and functionality.
Trend: Technology - Optimised Efficiency
Technology continues to be at the forefront for 2026 trends. WGSN predicts there will be “a need to expedite the adoption of sustainable systems and processes, as well as to meet the increasing demand for precise personalisation in products and experiences. To rise to this challenge, the use of technology will need to be more intentional and functional, with a focus on doing good for people and the environment. Tech will empower everyday gestures with an additional layer of quiet functionality - especially useful for safety, privacy and energy saving in the home.”
Brands and designers will need to embrace the transformative power of technology to create environments that continue to meet the changing needs of the end user. Mark advises to “integrate technology discreetly and ensure that the technology does not create a barrier to adoption or use. Features should be subtle and intuitive, so they blend with the room’s overall design rather than dominate it.”
The role of sustainability, Mark says, “is no longer considered optional when it comes to product development. For designers and specifiers, sustainability is as much about compliance and futureproofing as it is about environmental ethics.” Modern shower controls need to be designed to reduce water flow through aeration and eco-flow technology, without compromising the user experience, as well as offer integrated timers and consumption monitors so users can track their usage.
From thermostatic precision to sustainable water solutions and touchless activation, Fitzroy of London is already adopting a number of these innovations and incorporating them into our product offering. Thermostatic valves, infra-red sensors and concealed controls appear within our Signature Water & Shower Control Collections, whilst we are also working to reduce the amount of water required when offering our sanitaryware solutions.
