An Introduction to Sarah Yuma
Sarah has worked on luxury hospitality projects all around the world, ensuring accessibility is at the forefront of all of her designs. Sarah commented “From boutique hotels to large scale, international projects, all of our designs require accessible bathrooms, not only because of the aging population, but also to ensure we are catering to people with disabilities.”
Tackling the Challenge of Balancing Accessible Design with Aesthetics
When designing Hyde London City’s guest rooms, Sarah was determined that the accessible bathrooms should feel just as stylish and considered as the rest of the hotel – as opposed to an afterthought. Fitzroy of London worked closely with Sarah to select products which balanced function and form. Meeting accessibility standards was essential but maintaining the hotel’s bold and contemporary design vision was equally important, with Sarah adding: “One of the main challenges I find as a designer is being able to find products that match our aesthetic but also provide functionality. When working on accessible bathrooms, it’s often difficult to find beautiful products in the finish that you want, but Fitzroy has a wide range of options to choose from, making it a super simple process.”
Why Fitzroy of London was Chosen for the Project
At Hyde London City, playful sophistication defines the interior - an aesthetic that extends seamlessly into the hotel’s accessible bathrooms. Sarah commented “When designing the hotel we were able to be playful with the wallpaper and the headboard, but we also wanted the bathrooms to be just as stylish and well thought-out, and Fitzroy was able to accommodate this in our design.” Sarah chose Fitzroy of London’s Gosfield Collection in an Anthracite PVD finish. This sophisticated choice beautifully complemented the brassware used in the non-accessible rooms, ensuring a seamless design flow throughout all guest rooms.
Working with Fitzroy of London
Sarah noted how the collaboration between Fitzroy of London and Studio Moren made the project a dream from start to finish. “Working with Fitzroy was amazing. Jayden, in particular, was great at getting samples really quickly, which was important due to our really tight deadlines. He was able to give us all of the specification details and help us with our technical drawings, which, when working on a refurbishment is really tough, so it was great to have the additional help.”
Client Feedback
The result was a luxurious and fully-inclusive space where accessibility and style go hand in hand. Sarah said she was thrilled with the final design and the feedback that Studio Moren received, concluding with this: “we’ve had some amazing feedback on the hotel and the client seemed really excited about it. They particularly loved the playfulness and how the design had been translated through to the public areas, guest rooms, suite and accessible bathrooms.”
